Motherly in detail

How Motherly works.

Everything about the first 40 days with Motherly: the steps, what you can count on, the New Mum 101 box and Motherly Points.

How it works

Trust is earned in the kitchen before it's earned in the nursery.

See the booking flow in the app demo

i. Before baby arrives

Meet on video

Watch carers' video intros in the carer portal, then meet your pick on a video call to set the schedule and agree what matters most.

ii. From day one

The house runs itself

Meals cooked, washing done and folded, groceries in, surfaces clean. Nothing you have to direct.

iii. When you're ready

A second pair of hands

Once you know your carer, they can mind your baby while you nap or shower. They wear a body camera the whole time, and only you can watch the footage.

iv. After every visit

Rate it, both ways

You review each visit and each carer builds a public track record. Good carers rise. Poor fits don't come back.

What you can count on

Care you'd let into your home.

Checked, five times over
Every carer passes five interview rounds, including a panel interview, a session with our psychologist and a final interview with our founder. Plus a National Police Check, Working with Children Check and three references.
On camera with your baby
Whenever a carer minds your baby, they wear a small body camera. The footage is encrypted so only your family can view it. Motherly can't. It never records in bathrooms.
Insured, whoever they work for
Carers are either employed through one of our partner home care and nanny providers, or freelance with their own public liability insurance. Either way, Motherly vets every carer to the same standard and stays your point of contact.
Known to your local hospital
Before their first family, we introduce each carer to the maternity unit, emergency department and urgent care clinic near you. If you ever need them, your carer knows the way, the people and the handover.
Ready if something goes wrong
Every carer holds current first aid, checks your first aid kit on day one, and knows your nearest GP, urgent care clinic and children’s emergency department before they arrive.
Chosen by you
See reviews from other mothers, meet on video, and swap carers any time.
Scheduled around sleep
Visits fit your baby's rhythm. Change them in the app when the night goes badly.
Funded by brands
Consumer brands who want to reach new families pay for most of your care, so help doesn't depend on your budget.

Questions

What Melbourne families ask us.

Can I join while I’m pregnant or doing IVF?

Yes. Motherly helps from IVF through pregnancy to the first 40 days after birth: meals and housework on hard days, getting your home ready before the baby arrives, and nutrition guidance for each stage. Leave the due date blank when you join if you’re not pregnant yet.

Who employs my carer?

Some carers are employed by our partner home care and nanny providers. Others are freelancers on their own ABN, with their own insurance. Each profile shows which. Every carer passes the same five-round vetting, and you deal with Motherly for booking, payment and any concerns.

Why is it so cheap?

Consumer brands in baby care, home and wellness want to reach new families. Instead of spending that budget on ads, they fund your care and stock a New Mum 101 box you get for $19.95. Your carer will never sell to you during a visit.

What's in the New Mum 101 box?

Samples and full-size products from our brand partners: nappies and wipes, recovery basics, baby wash, night-feed snacks and household essentials. Some full-size items are close to their best-before date, which is part of how brands can give them away, and everything arrives in date. It costs $19.95, which covers packing and delivery, and nobody will follow up to sell you anything.

Who are Motherly carers?

Experienced nannies, doulas, early childhood educators, cooks and parents, plus nursing and midwifery students working part time while they study. Students do household support only, never clinical care. Every carer passes the same five vetting rounds and is either employed through a partner provider or freelances with their own insurance.

Is it safe to have a stranger in my home?

Every carer passes a care simulation, five interview rounds including a psychologist and our founder, a National Police Check, a Working with Children Check, first aid and three references. You meet them on video first, review every visit, and baby-minding shifts are recorded on a body camera only you can watch.

What does joining the waitlist commit me to?

Nothing. It's free. We'll email you before we open in your suburb, and you decide then.

Which suburbs will you cover?

We're starting in metropolitan Melbourne and opening suburb by suburb, where waitlist demand is highest. Tell your friends and your suburb moves up the list.

What if I don't click with my carer?

Swap any time in the app. No questions, no awkward conversation.

Do I need to follow zuò yuèzi?

No. Motherly is inspired by it, but it's for every family. Keep whichever traditions feel right to you, or none.

How do Motherly Points work?

You earn points for joining, paying for care, reviewing visits and bringing friends. Spend them on box refills, brand vouchers, a postnatal massage or an extra visit, or give them to a family who needs more help. They’re worth about 1 cent each in vouchers.

Can I buy Motherly for someone else?

Yes. Partners, parents and friends can join on someone's behalf. Join with your email, and use their postcode and due date.

Care levels

Real care, mostly paid for by the brands you already buy.

Brands pay just over half your care. You pay the rest.

Not sure? We confirm your level from your postcode when you sign up.

Our mission

Every mother deserves 40 days of rest.

Families who can afford it book confinement centres and live-in help. Most new mothers go home alone. Our mission is to make that care affordable for every family, from IVF to the first 40 days after birth.

Why 40 days

Most cultures gave mothers a month of rest. We gave them a six-week check.

For generations, women were fed, kept warm and relieved of housework for about 40 days after birth. Someone else ran the home.

Today most new parents come home from hospital within 48 hours, often with a partner back at work inside two weeks. The recovery is the same. The help is gone.

Motherly brings the help back, starting with the jobs that pile up fastest.

Inspired by zuò yuèzi

The care of a confinement centre, without the confinement‑centre price.

In Chinese tradition, new mothers “sit the month” (坐月子, zuò yuèzi, said “zwor yoo-eh-zuh”): 30 to 40 days of rest while others cook, clean and care for them.

Families lean on a mother-in-law, a live-in yuèsǎo (said “yoo-eh sow”) or a hotel-style confinement centre. The centres work. Most families can't afford them.

Motherly keeps what matters most: someone else running your home while you recover. Consumer brands fund it, so you can afford it. Keep whichever traditions suit you.

No personal data

Who we are

Motherly (motherly.club) is an IVF, pregnancy and postpartum care service launching in Melbourne, Victoria. You can contact us about privacy at hello@motherly.club.

What we collect

  • Families: your email, postcode and pregnancy due date if you give it, and how you found our website (for example, which ad you clicked).
  • Carers: your name, email, mobile, suburb, experience, background, the checks and qualifications you hold, languages and availability.
  • Care providers and brands: your organisation and work contact details.

Your due date is health information. We only collect it with your consent, and it’s optional.

Why we collect it

To tell you when Motherly opens near you, plan where we launch, assess carer applications and reply to partnership enquiries. We won’t use it for anything else without asking you.

Where it’s stored

We store your details in Google Workspace. Google may store data on servers outside Australia. Only Motherly staff who need your details can see them.

Who we share it with

We never sell your details, and we never share them with the brands that fund Motherly. Brands only see totals, such as how many boxes were delivered. We use Meta and Google to measure our ads. They can see that someone visited our website or joined the waitlist, but not your due date or other health information.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete your details at any time by emailing hello@motherly.club. Every email we send has a way to unsubscribe.

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, email us first and we’ll reply within 30 days. If we can’t resolve it, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

About us

Why I started Motherly.

Hi, I’m Sharon! I’ve spent the last five years in medical diagnostics, working with hospitals, urgent care clinics and women’s health teams across four states in Australia and New Zealand, with a background in neuroscience and psychology.

I kept seeing the same gap. Pregnancy comes with scans, tests and appointments. Then a new mother goes home with her baby, and the support mostly stops. The cooking, the washing and her own recovery all land on her, just as she’s learning how to raise a child.

Motherly is the help I wish every mother had: vetted, affordable and in her own home.

Round 1 · The Motherly care simulation

Before the interviews, show us how you'd handle a real shift.

Eight common moments from the first 40 days, drawn at random. We watch what you do, what you say, how fast you act, and whether you raise it with the family, Motherly or 000 when it matters. Try a sample run now.

    How vetting works

Five rounds. Every carer meets our founder.

Families let you into their home in the hardest weeks of their lives. So we hire the way medical companies do: several rounds, a panel, a psychologist and a final interview with our CEO.

    1. Round 1

      • Motherly care simulation: timed scenarios, written answers, about 20 minutes

      • Nanny candidates: hands-on newborn care and safe sleep
    4. Round 4

      Psychology interview

      • One-on-one with our in-house psychologist
      • Judgement, boundaries, and how you stay calm under pressure
    5. Round 5

      Final interview with our founder

      • Every Motherly carer meets our CEO before their first family

Pass all five and you start work, employed through a partner provider or freelance on your ABN, beginning with Motherly training: newborn safety, Red Nose safe sleep, postpartum recovery, infant first aid, knowing where to go in an emergency, cooking from the nutrition plan, using the body camera and respecting traditions like zuò yuèzi. Then introductions to the maternity unit, emergency department and urgent care clinic near your families, a shadow shift with an experienced carer, and your first family.

    First shift, first job

Know where to go before anything goes wrong.

Before your first visit, the Motherly app saves the family's nearest GP, urgent care clinic and children's emergency department, with travel times. On arrival you find the first aid kit and check it. Here's the guide every carer trains on.

You'll already know the local teams. During onboarding we introduce you to the maternity unit, emergency department and urgent care clinic near the families you'll support: where to go, who to ask for, and how to hand over clearly.

    Why carers choose Motherly

Better pay. Your hours. Work that builds a reputation.

    $50 an hour
Employed rate for household support: cooking, washing, cleaning and errands. About a third above the Victorian average nanny rate, plus super.
    $70 an hour
Employed rate for nanny work, when you're caring for the baby. Almost double the average rate, plus super. Open to carers with a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or two years of paid nanny experience, plus a current Working with Children Check and first aid. Nanny shifts are recorded on a Motherly body camera.
    Flexible hours
Choose your days, your shift lengths and how many families you take on. Short morning visits or full days, it's up to you.
    Flexible work
Do household support, nanny work or a mix. Start with housework and move into nanny work with families who've come to trust you.
A camera that protects you too
If a family ever questions what happened on a shift, the footage shows it. We supply the camera. The family holds the footage, and it never records in bathrooms.
    Badges you earn
Start as Vetted. Families rate every visit, and strong reviews move you up to Trusted, then Exceptional. Higher badges show first to families and get first pick of longer placements.

The work is quiet. The difference it makes isn't.
